JAPANESE ACE DEATILS This information from: Dan "Bullet" Thorpe Greetings and salutations from Japan! We just had a typhoon here on Saturday and after a good typhoon, the weather gets real nice for a couple of days so I took to the Japan hills on Sunday and Monday. Here is some info Iāve managed to translate about the 400 and 750: Honda Shadow ACE 400 and 750 specs 400cc 750cc Length (m) 2.455 Width 0.945 Height 1.105 Wheel base 1.625 1.615 Clearance 0.140 Seat height 0.695 Weight (kg) 242 245 Dry weight 225 228 km/l 34.0(60km/h) 32.9(60km/h) Engine 4cycle, OHC, water cooled, 3 valve/cyl Displacement 398cc 745cc PS/rpm 33/7,500 45/5,500 Torque(kg/rpm) 3.5/5,500 6.7/3,000 Oil capacity 2.9 liters Fuel capacity 14.0 liters Front tire 120/90-17 64S Rear tire 170/80-15M/C 77S Frame Double cradle type Price in Japanese Yen 629,000 669,000 These specs were taken from a Japanese sales brochure and translated. Both bikes were made available here in Japan this April. The 750 and 400 are identical in every way except for the displacement. You can't tell by looking at them which is which. Only the color scheme tells you what the size is. The 750 is available only in a black/white two tone, while the 400 has a choice of red/black and ivory/green two tone. I'm sorry, I have no idea what color choices will be available in Europe or in N. America. I have heard that the tank mounted instruments will only be available in Asia and Europe. The North American version will have handle bar mounted gauges. I have no way to confirm it, but I believe the 400 will not be exported. The 400 being identical in physical size, a 6.6 pound weight difference, and about $360 difference in price makes one wonder why they would choose that one in a country with a good road system. In Japan, bikes are seldom over the 250 to 400 class, and getting a license to ride a bigger bike is extremely difficult here, besides riding a bike larger than a 400 is not very practical in Japan. I take delivery of the 750 on July 20th (practicality be hanged, I feel like a gelding on something smaller, and the 40,000yen price difference is nothing) and I will let you know what I think of the bike, if your interested, after that time. I apologize for not having a scanner, so I canāt show you what they look like. I compared these two to the 1100 ACE and found the sizes are extremely close. (# TheStone notes: July 20th! Thats my late grandmother's birthday! #) Nothing like a bit of trivia to brighten up your day!
